Pensacola Bahia

This fast-growing grass is popular in the Southern United States, especially in Florida. In fact, it is estimated it covers 2.5 million acres in Florida alone. Ranchers prefer this grass because it tolerates a wider range of soil conditions, is easily established, withstands close grazing, can produce moderate yields on low fertility soil, and is relatively insect and disease-free. Pensacola Bahia tends to survive in sandy soils and has some cold tolerance. However, a moderate frost can kill top growth. In Florida, it germinates on both upland well-drained sand and the moist, poorly-drained flatwood soils of peninsular Florida.
